In my opinion, parts of the hackers ethics still stand and some are obslete. Access to computers and information is free. IBM is still a big company but, they do not have the monoply on technology. I really like the quote on hacker's point of view about traffic,"the system of randomly programmed red lights and oddly laid out one-way streets causes delays which are so goddamned unnecessary that the impulse is to rearrange signs, open up traffic-light control boxes . . . redesign the entire system." Prehaps we should put them in charge of traffic engineering, and maybe things would get done right. Mistrust Authority-Promote Decentralization is good to some degree, what is the biggest obsticle to progress? Bureaucracy. I like the hacker thought pattern, it reminds me of myself. I am analyitical and calculating, I like things to work right. I also like judging hackers by their skill, just because someone does not have a fancy degree does not mean they are an idiot. I think computers have changed our lives for the better. Computers have made things faster, more accurate, easier and fun. While there are some drawbacks, I think the good outweighs the bad, the bad can be improved.
